
Valarie Handy
Acting State Director for Arkansas
Valarie Handy is the Acting State Director for Arkansas. In this role, she serves as its chief executive officer and is tasked with carrying out the mission of Rural Development; to increase the economic well-being and quality of life for people and communities in rural Arkansas.
Handy is a Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) and career employee of USDA Rural Development who has served in a variety of roles for the Agency for more than 20 years. Her roles have included, Deputy State Director, Director of Community Programs, Data Scientist, Community Development Specialist, Loan Specialist, and began as a Student Trainee. She has extensive experience working with elected officials, community leaders, USDA and agencies at all levels of government on local economic development and rural development initiatives.
Valarie is a lifelong resident of the Grand Traverse region of Michigan and is a self-proclaimed “data nerd” and “chronic volunteer.”
