CARSON CITY, Nev., Nov. 16, 2023 – USDA Rural Development joined the city of West Wendover today to celebrate the city’s progress on its downtown infrastructure project at a dedication event.

“West Wendover has a lot of heart and is ready for the economic revitalization that will come of the city’s downtown master plan,” said USDA Rural Development Nevada State Director Lucas Ingvoldstad. “The Biden-Harris Administration continues to invest in the visions small communities hold for themselves and their futures. USDA’s contributions in West Wendover all support the city’s long-term goals of prosperity and community pride.”

Since 2018, USDA Rural Development has invested more than $4.4 million to assist in creating a healthy downtown area for West Wendover. These investments encourage development of the area and of a town center for the community, of which the economy depends heavily on tourism.

USDA’s investments are provided through the Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program. USDA’s Community Facilities Programs offer direct loans, loan guarantees and grants to develop or improve essential public services and facilities in communities across rural America. These amenities help increase the competitiveness of rural communities in attracting and retaining businesses that provide employment and services for their residents.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities, create jobs and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural, tribal and high-poverty areas.
