CARSON CITY, Nev., Dec. 9, 2021 – USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Jim Park today announced the Department is investing $377,628 to reduce the impacts of climate change on rural Nevada communities. As part of the Build Back Better agenda, the Biden-Harris Administration has made investing in rural communities, creating good-paying jobs and combating the climate crisis top priorities.

“At USDA we’re interested in supporting rural America’s economic and climate resilience,” said Park. “The two investments we’re announcing today will make lasting impacts in economic savings and reducing energy consumption for two rural Nevada businesses.”

The projects are funded through the Rural Energy for America Program. These investments will help agricultural producers and rural small businesses purchase and install renewable energy systems and make energy efficiency improvements.

  • Hiko Hay and Cattle, LLC will use a $353,628 grant to install a solar photovoltaic system which will provide renewable energy to power the irrigation wells for this hay and cattle business in Hiko, Nevada. This investment will reduce the business’ annual energy expenses.
  • Overton Power District #5 will use a $24,000 grant to install a solar photovoltaic system on a parking structure in Moapa, Nevada. The energy generated from this structure will feed directly into the Overton Power District office meter via net metering and reduce utilities expenses.
