This is the 15th time IAIA has received funds from USDA Rural Development

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M., Nov. 30, 2022 – Today, USDA Rural Development State Director Patricia Dominguez was honored to visit the Institute of American Indian Arts (IAIA) in Sana Fe to highlight its latest successful application for funds from the agency.

Today’s celebration was special because this is the 15th time the school has received funding from USDA Rural Development for a variety of construction projects. IAIA has received more obligations for projects than any other entity that has been funded by Rural Development in New Mexico.

“The fifteen projects have helped IAIA be a world class institution of higher education by providing an ideal modern learning environment which ultimately enhances a student’s education,” said Dominguez.

The latest $344,895 Tribal College Initiative Grant will be used to install additional solar panels and an electric vehicle (EV) charging station.  Other projects funded in the past include construction of the school’s library and technology center and the completion of a multipurpose fitness and performing arts center. The IAIA campus is designed to reduce its carbon footprint and the school’s goal is to become self-sustaining and only use renewable energy.  Click here for listing of IAIA funding projects by USDA Rural Development.

Founded in October of 1962, IAIA’s goal is to provide both Native and non-Native students the best higher education and to expand the artistic and cultural traditions for each of the students.

IAIA prides itself as a place where traditions are rediscovered, explored, and deepened Where art and cultural identity is celebrated and revered. Currently, the school has nearly over 450 students representing 91 Tribes from 36 states.
