Biden-Harris Administration Appoints Dr. Trina N. George to Serve as State Director for USDA Rural Development in Mississippi

Jackson, Mississippi, February 24th, 2022 - The Biden-Harris Administration recently appointed Dr. Trina N. George as the new State Director for USDA Rural Development in Mississippi. George began her new role on Monday, February 28th, 2022.

Dr. Trina N. George brings decades of experience working to develop rural communities and economic development in Mississippi.  Having served as the Special Projects/Community Outreach and Development Coordinator in the Office of Congressman Bennie G. Thompson (MS-02), and State Director for Rural Development in Mississippi under President Barack Obama, she directly engaged and supported rural communities in Mississippi, assisting constituents with rural housing, water, wastewater, and infrastructure requirements. 

As State Director, Dr. George will support Rural Development’s mission to support economic opportunity and promote quality of life in Rural Mississippi.

Under the leadership of President Biden, Vice President Harris and Agriculture Secretary Vilsack, USDA is committed to: being an ally for people in rural communities by investing in infrastructure and opportunities that help them build back better, supporting America’s rural communities on the frontlines of climate change by building disaster resiliency and making climate-smart investments (increasing access to renewable energy and fuel infrastructure) and creating new income opportunities, and increasing equity in and for rural communities.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; homeownership; community services such as schools, public safety, and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
