USDA-RD Participates in Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony at Richmond Community College

ROCKINGHAM, N.C., September 22, 2021 –Various federal and state officials joined U.S. Department of Agriculture North Carolina Rural Development at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at Richmond Community College Wednesday.

USDA invested $6.7 million to construct a 40 thousand square foot building for the city of Rockingham that will be utilized by Richmond Community College’s School of Business and Information Technology.

“The Biden-Harris administration is placing an emphasis on quality education through the use of community colleges,” said Rural Development Acting State Director Mell Ellis. “We know the skills and training students are receiving here are setting them up for future success.”

This project will benefit the 9,558 residents in the area.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
