USDA-RD Participates in Groundbreaking Ceremony with Help Inc.

REIDSVILLE, N.C., July 30, 2021 –Various federal and state officials joined U.S. Department of Agriculture North Carolina Rural Development at a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the new Help Incorporated Center Against Violence shelter today.
USDA is investing $2.1 million in loans to construct a shelter for abused women and children.
The shelter will consist of:
• Administrative office spaces
• Restrooms
• Meeting/training/conference rooms
• Staff break rooms
• Therapeutic rooms
• Storage
• Individual/family sleeping quarters
“Safety is an essential human right,” said USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Mel Ellis. “The work being done at Help Inc. assures those who come here will have shelter, food and dignity in a place that assures their safety and well-being.”
This project will ensure the safety of victims of family violence, including domestic violence, child abuse, abuse of the elderly, sexual assault, and human trafficking.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
