USDA-RD Participates in Dedication Ceremony at Farmville Library

Release Date

FARMVILLE, N.C., May 11, 2021 Various federal and state officials joined U.S. Department of Agriculture North Carolina Rural Development in a dedication ceremony at the new Farmville Public Library today.

In rural North Carolina, Farmville is using a $350 thousand grant from USDA to purchase storage caddies, carts, computers, book tables, chairs, desks, printers, and shelving systems.

“In an increasingly technological world, librarians and libraries meet the needs of the public on so many fronts,” said North Carolina USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Mel Ellis. “From exposing children to the stories that represent them and also allow them to see into another culture and world, to helping guiding minds, both young and old, though the research process, to being a beacon for those who might not have access to the endless information the internet provides.”

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
