SAXAPAHAW, N.C., July 6, 2021 –Various federal and state officials joined U.S. Department of Agriculture North Carolina Rural Development in a beam signing ceremony at the Hawbridge School today.
USDA is investing $12.4 million to expand the school campus to serve the students in grades 7 through 12.
The existing campus will serve grades K-6. The school will add grades K-3.
“This project will provide the most up-to-date education for our children in this rural part of North Carolina,” said USDA Rural Development Acting State Director Mel Ellis. “Our educators need schools that are efficient and have the advanced technology needed to prepare our students. This facility will give the next generation of rural Americans the tools they need for success.”
The construction will allow the school to expand while providing a safe and adequate instructional area for all students.
This facility will benefit 1,648 rural residents in the local area.
USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
