SELMA, N.C., January 30, 2023 – Members of the North Carolina USDA Rural Development team participated in a groundbreaking ceremony at the future site of the My Kid’s Club, in Selma, today.
Rural Development is investing $665 thousand in Community Facility Disaster Grant funds to assist in the construction of the childcare facility.
My Kid's Club delivers daily programming to more than 200 students ages 6-16. It is designed to help young people learn the skills and attitudes they need to grow academically, succeed in their chosen career, and give back to the community.
The new five thousand square foot building will facilitate operations and programs for kids in Selma, a low-income community.
“The programs My Kid’s Club are helping the children of Johnston County with their academics and helping them develop character,” said Rural Development State Director Reginald Speight. “President Biden has spoken numerous times to the value of quality affordable childcare.
We are proud of our partnership with My Kid’s Club here in rural Johnston County.”
The facility that was housing My Kid’s Club program was destroyed by Hurricane Matthew.
The project is an essential community facility that will continue to provide before and after school services and community meeting space for the rural residences of Selma, N.C.
The objective of the USDA Rural Development Community Facility Loans and Grants Program is to provide affordable funding to develop essential community facilities in rural areas.
