Funding will Help Provide Rural Long-Term Health Care Services

PHOENIX, Ariz., June 23, 2021 – United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Arizona Acting State Director Jeff Hays today announced it will invest $95,000 to equip, rebuild, and modernize an essential service in rural Arizona.

“As America continues to build back better and stronger, one of the Biden-Harris Administration priorities is investing in infrastructure improvements.” Hays said. “This funding will help this Verde Valley rural community invest in a facility and services that are vital to residents to continue on their path to recovery.”

This investment will be used by Steps to Recovery Homes to improve a four-plex housing facility, recently donated by a local non-profit, in Cottonwood, Arizona.  Improvements will include added security features, floors, roofing, heating and cooling, solar panels, an outdoor storage structure, equipment and furniture.

Steps to Recovery Homes offers housing, transportation, job skill coaching, and essential services to help clients manage their day-to-day lives. This home will be used by women of all ages who are in the substance abuse recovery program.

A previous Community Facilities program investment provided funding for a Steps to Recovery Homes four-plex house for men and additional business programming.

USDA is investing $185 million in 32 states that supports 233 projects through the Community Facilities Direct Loan and Grant Program. Of these, 74 awards, totaling $4 million, will help communities with their long-term recovery efforts following natural disasters such as hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes.

More than 100 types of projects are eligible for Community Facilities funding. Eligible applicants include municipalities, public bodies, nonprofit organizations and federally recognized Native American tribes. Projects must be in rural areas with a population of 20,000 or less.
