Community Discussion Facilitated By Rural Partners Network

LAUGHLIN, Nev., July 24, 2024 – Yesterday, U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Nevada (USDA RD-NV) State Director Lucas Ingvoldstad met with community members, congressional staff, and local government leaders in Laughlin to identify and discuss community needs and experiences. Representatives from the Offices of Senator Catherine Cortez Masto, Senator Jacky Rosen, and Congresswoman Susie Lee were present. Also represented were the Small Business Development Center, Las Vegas Valley Water District, Big Bend Water District, and Southern Nevada Water Authority.

“USDA Rural Development is committed to supporting Nevada’s rural communities,” said Ingvoldstad. “Through initiatives such as USDA’s Rural Partners Network, USDA meets rural communities where they are and works together to address each community’s unique circumstances. We will continue to build trust and understanding in Laughlin by listening to and centering the rural voices articulating important rural needs.”

The Rural Partners Network has recently facilitated similar discussions about community concerns in Fernley, Nevada and also supported the creation of a community garden in Searchlight, Nevada, which does not have a grocery store.

Background: Rural Partners Network

USDA-RD is the lead agency for the Rural Partners Network, an alliance of federal agencies and commissions, including U.S. Department of Commerce and the Economic Development Administration, working directly with rural communities to expand rural prosperity through job creation, infrastructure development, and community improvement.

USDA RD-NV has in-state RPN staff dedicated as community liaisons in five selected Community Networks to provide technical assistance and connect resources and staff from across the Federal government to improve access to programs and advance local projects. These collaborations drive local efforts to enhance the economy and improve the quality of life for local households. Each Community Network is a distinct entity managed and led by local community members.

The five Community Networks are as follows:

  1. Southern Nevada: Nye and Esmeralda Counties
  2. Sierra Region: Lyon and Mineral Counties
  3. Moapa Valley: Clark County, North and Central Communities
  4. Southern Clark County: Clark County, Southeastern Communities
  5. Nevada 95-80 Regional Development: Humboldt and Pershing Counties
