HAYWARD, Wis., June 22, 2021 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Wisconsin Rural Development would like to congratulate NorthLakes Community Clinic, Chippewa Valley Bank and Silver Maple Construction on the completion of the Hayward clinic expansion.

“Rural Development strives to ensure that quality healthcare is available to all rural citizens,” Acting State Director Michelle Wallace said. “We are proud to partner again with NorthLakes to enhance healthcare in the Northwoods.”

In Sawyer County, Wis., NorthLakes Community Clinic used a $1.8 million loan guarantee to expand its clinic in Hayward. This $2 million project added 8,000 square feet of new clinic space and renovated 5,000 square feet in a building that they acquired in 2017. This renovation allowed for the consolidation of all services in Hayward to be located under one roof.

In 2017, NorthLakes utilized $6.3 million in USDA funding to improve the existing Hayward clinic, double the size of their Ashland facility, add an additional 3,700 square feet of operational space to the Iron River location and constructed a new clinic in Turtle Lake.

USDA is funding this project through the Community Facilities Guaranteed Loan Program. More than 100 types of projects are eligible for Community Facilities funding such as building or upgrading schools, libraries, clinics and public safety facilities. Eligible applicants include municipalities, public bodies, nonprofit organizations and federally recognized Native American tribes. Projects must be in rural areas with a population of 20,000 or less.
