BOONVILLE, Ind. – July 27, 2021 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Indiana Rural Development representatives joined Boonville Water Utility, Midwestern Engineers Inc, the Indiana Bond Bank, Veolia and other dignitaries at a groundbreaking today to celebrate the start of construction on their water distribution system renovation.

“USDA is committed to ensuring that rural Hoosier’s have access to modern, reliable and affordable water and wastewater infrastructure,” Acting State Director Curtis Johnson said. “We value our continue partnerships with Indiana Bond Bank and Midwestern Engineers because together, we can bring prosperity to the rural communities we all serve.”

In Warrick County, Ind., the Town of Boonville will use $3.7 million in direct, low-interest loans and a $629,000 grant to add a new well, replace some water mains in the distribution system, install solar panels at the well field and treatment plant and replace meters within the system. The use of solar panels will enable the City to run some of their operations with less energy cost which will in turn help keep user rates reasonable for residents. The Indiana Bond Bank will provide interim financing during construction and this project will serve over 8,400 residents in the City of Boonville and Boon Township.

USDA is funding this project through the Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. This program provides funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas with populations of 10,000 or less.

Under the Biden-Harris Administration, Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities, create jobs and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural, Tribal and high-poverty areas.
