More Than 2,500 West Virginians to Benefit from Investment

MINERAL WELLS, W.Va., July 16, 2024 – U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development West Virginia State Director Ryan Thorn joined representatives from the Mineral Wells Public Service District and other local stakeholders to “turn the meter” on a water system improvement project that will improve the reliability of the water supply.

“When we invest in our infrastructure we’re investing in the future,” said Thorn. “Infrastructure is one of the building blocks of economic development and can help grow the economy for decades to come; making our rural communities economically viable, attractive places to live and work. Congratulations to the Mineral Wells PSD for its commitment to improve access to clean and reliable water.”

Rural Development provided a $3.6 million loan for the project through its Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant Program. That investment will help improve existing infrastructure and replace approximately 2,750 feet of water main from the Claywood Water Treatment Plant to the river crossing.
