U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Oklahoma State Director Kenneth Corn announced today at the Chickasaw Nation Headquarters with Gov. Bill Anoatubby that USDA is making a $24. 9 million grant investment to provide high-speed internet to Chickasaw Nation to provide high-speed internet in Carter, Johnston, Murray and Pontotoc Counties.

“President Biden has made tribal sovereignty and indigenous prosperity as one of his key platforms on his agenda to return economic prosperity to the American people,” Corn said. “I couldn’t be prouder to be here with Gov. Anoatubby today to reaffirm the President’s commitment to rebuild our economy from the middle out and bottom up by bringing high-speed internet, clean water and critical infrastructure to people in communities everywhere, especially in places like rural Oklahoma that have been underserved for far too long.”

The projects are being financed through the ReConnect Program. This funding will advance President Biden’s Investing in America agenda to grow the nation’s economy, create jobs and spur economic growth across the nation, in even the most remote parts of the country.

“Under the Biden-Harris Administration, USDA is committed to Tribal economic development and removing barriers for Tribal nations,” Corn said. “When we invest in modern infrastructure for people who live in Tribal communities across Oklahoma, it creates a ripple effect that impacts everyone positively across the Sooner State.”

USDA touches the lives of all Americans each day in so many positive ways. Under the leadership of the Biden-Harris Administration, USDA is transforming America’s food system with a greater focus on more resilient local and regional food production, fairer markets for all producers, ensuring access to safe, healthy and nutritious food in all communities, building new markets and streams of income for farmers and producers using climate-smart food and forestry practices, making historic investments in infrastructure and clean energy capabilities in rural America, and committing to equity across the Department by removing systemic barriers and building a workforce more representative of America.
