Georgia Grown Pomegranates, Beyond 'Wonderful'

Sought by health enthusiasts for delivering nutritional benefits, antioxidants and fiber, pomegranates are established in the marketplace with products like Pom Wonderful® brand juices, arils and teas.  But although pomegranates are common in back yards throughout South Georgia and research and development has proven success for California with the Wonderful variety of pomegranate, the Wonderful cultivar performs very poorly in Georgia.

Claybrook Farms Providing Beef and Jobs

Even though Claybrook Farms had a long standing reputation for its excellent Black Angus cattle breeding operation, the new owner wanted to broaden the farm’s horizon.

The Turner family purchased the 700 acre Claybrook Farms in 1975 growing it to over 1,000 acres and adding the production of corn, soybeans, wheat, and oats to support their cattle operation.  When the reins passed from patriarch Carl Turner to his son, Dave, in 2012 a new vision was cast.

Federal, State and Local Partnership Brings Farmers Market to Life

Town of Ashland City Mayor Richard Johnson was concerned about the sagging agricultural economy and lack of facilities for their Farmers Market. 

Reaching out last year to state and federal partners the Town of Ashland City received a USDA Rural Development Rural Business Enterprise Grant of $66,523 in addition to funding from the Tennessee Department of Agriculture to assist them in the construction of a Farmers Market.

USDA Announces $500,000 Loan To Support Small Businesses In Seacoast Region… Hayseed Restaurant Opens With Support Of USDA

United States Senator Jeanne Shaheen, United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials, and others marked the opening of a Seacoast Region restauraunt focused on connecting Granite Staters with local food Monday at Hayseed Restaurant in Hampton. Shaheen and USDA Rural Development State Director Ted Brady announced a new $500,000 loan to Coastal Economic Development Corporation (CEDC) to help small businesses like Hayseed create jobs and stimulate investment in rural New Hampshire communities.
