STAKEHOLDER ANNOUNCEMENT: USDA Seeks Applications for Grants to Help Repair Housing in Rural Communities

WASHINGTON, June 25, 2018 – Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett today announced that USDA is seeking applications for grants to make housing repairs for low- and very-low-income rural residents. The grants are being provided through USDA’s Housing Preservation Grant program.

Vital Repairs Help Mother, Daughter Remain in their Home

Maria no longer felt safe in her own home, where she lives with her daughter, Margarita, in rural Malheur County in eastern Oregon. Wind blew in through the cracks around the windows, and water leaked through the roof. But with her low monthly income, Maria could not afford repairs. She was stressed, unsure what to do, and imagined the house might simply fall apart around them while they slept.

USDA Funding Available to Help Low-Income Individuals and Families Buy or Repair Homes

USDA Rural Development has funding available for very low and low-income individuals and families seeking to purchase or repair a home in a rural area.

“Safe, affordable housing and the availability of credit are key to the growth and prosperity of rural communities,” said Acting State Director, Dave Schwobe.  “USDA Rural Housing Programs have provided stability and opportunity for over 60 years and we value what we have accomplished.”

USDA Helps Caldwell County Resident with Home Repairs

USDA Rural Development Acting Area Director Leann Gleason today announced Single Family Housing 504 Repair funding of to Ms. Lola Jones, a resident of Caldwell County. The funds were used to make replacements and improvements to her home.

“As our homes get older, we still want them to be safe, secure and up-to-date. Owning a home is a commitment in many ways and repairs are necessary over time,” said Gleason. “We are honored to have been able to assist Ms. Jones in making these improvements to ensure her home is safe and able to sustain for many years to come.”
