USDA Invests $42 Million in Distance Learning and Telemedicine Infrastructure to Improve Education and Health Outcomes

Pennsylvania DLT project receives $490,381 grant

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced it is investing $42.3 million to help rural residents gain access to health care and educational opportunities. Rural areas are seeing higher infection and death rates related to COVID-19 due to several factors, including a much higher percentage of underlying conditions, difficulty accessing medical care, and lack of health insurance.

USDA Helped Improve Essential Services in Rural Georgia in 2017: Funding Supports Schools, First Responder Vehicles and Equipment, Public Works, and Other Community Needs

Georgia State Director for USDA Rural Development Joyce White today announced USDA investments in projects to provide essential services for nearly 300,000 people in rural areas across Georgia in Fiscal Year 2017.

   “Community Facilities investments by USDA are investments in rural prosperity,” White said. “Improving schools, public safety facilities and public works departments in communities improves the quality of life; we’re committed to the future of rural communities.”

Grants Fund Purchases of Cutting Edge Training Equipment at Wiregrass Georgia Technical College

Today the Department of Agriculture and Wiregrass Georgia Technical College announced four Rural Business Development Grant awards totaling $171,694.99 that will help prepare students and graduates to fill the demand for a technically skilled workforce. Funds will be used to purchase technical equipment for training Nursing program, Criminal Justice program and Welding program students for workforce readiness.
