USDA Rural Development Celebrates Opening of New Water Treatment Plant

NASHVILLE, Tenn., Feb. 23, 2021 - USDA Rural Development Area Director Joel Howard participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the Paris Board of Public Utilities (BPU) Water Treatment Plant today.  

“We are proud to partner with Paris BPU on the construction of its new Water Treatment Plant,” Howard said. “The new plant will adequately serve this rural community to ensure they have the necessary water infrastructure to meet the needs of the community for years to come.

In 2018, Paris BPU, through the City of Paris received a Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant totaling $7.2 million in loan and $1 million in grant. This Rural Development investment was used for the construction of a new 4 million gallon per day Water Treatment Plant with a new Filter Building, filters, high service pumps and clearwell. The project will serve all 5,060 active users and three wholesale customers of the Paris BPU system in the city of Paris and Henry County.

Others participating in the event include Jacobs Engineering, W&O Construction, Paris Board of Public Utilities, City Officials, USDA Representatives including Brandon Orr, Area Specialist, Rural Development – Tennessee.

USDA Rural Development provides loans and grants to help expand economic opportunities and create jobs in rural areas. This assistance supports infrastructure improvements; business development; housing; community facilities such as schools, public safety and health care; and high-speed internet access in rural areas.
