Release Date

The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) has approved loans and grants totaling $9,317,500 in twenty-five Mississippi communities.

The Community Facilities Programs offer direct loans, loan guarantees and grants to develop or improve essential public services and facilities in communities across rural America. These amenities help increase the competitiveness of rural communities.

“Our community facilities program can be used to help fund schools, libraries, health clinics, and the purchase of public safety equipment,” said John Campbell, State Director for Rural Development in Mississippi. “Access to modern community facilities and essential services is vital to attracting and retaining residents and businesses, ensuring rural prosperity.”

Examples of projects recently funded in Mississippi include:

  • City of Louisville – This Rural Development investment of $29,800 will be used to purchase a new patrol vehicle, a mini excavator, and a chipper.  The town’s current equipment is older and requires constant maintenance and repairs.  The new equipment will help the town provide better service to the residents.

  • Wayne General Hospital - This Rural Development investment of $42,000 will be used to purchase a portable x-ray system. The new unit will acquire sharp images quickly and precisely. It will be reliable and benefit the citizens of Wayne County seeking patient care.

  • Town of Friars Point - This Rural Development investment of $46,900 will be used to purchase a sewer jetter and ditching machine. The town currently has no machines that will do this work, so the town contracts the machines, increasing response time and costs. Purchasing the machines will allow the town to address sewer emergencies and local flooding issues in a timelier manner and with reduced costs.

  • City of Kosciusko - This Rural Development Investment of $49,900 will be used to assist the city of Kosciusko in purchasing new patrol cars. The new vehicles will be reliable and require less service, reducing costs and helping law enforcement better serve the citizens of Kosciusko.

  • City of Port Gibson - This Rural Development investment of $629,500 will be used for the construction of a new facility that will house the city's law enforcement administration, and a new detention area.
