TEMPLE, TX, Oct 28, 2020 – The Trump Administration today announced that the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $3.99 million to modernize rural drinking water and wastewater in San Augustine, TX. USDA is providing the funding through the Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grant program.

“The investment announced today demonstrates our commitment to improving essential water services that will enhance the prosperity of rural Texans,” said State Director Edd Hargett. “Under the leadership of President Trump and Agriculture Secretary Perdue, USDA has been working tirelessly to be a strong partner to rural Texas in building stronger and healthier communities, because we know when rural America thrives, all of America thrives.”

Recipients can use Water and Waste Disposal funding for clean and reliable drinking water systems, sanitary sewage disposal, sanitary solid waste disposal, and storm water drainage to households and businesses in eligible rural areas.

San Augustine Rural WSC will use a $988,000 loan and a $3,011,000 grant to drill three deep wells to provide water to its existing customers, which will allow the current water supply purchased from the city of San Augustine to be used as an emergency backup. Other improvements include additional distribution lines, well supply, storage capacity, and booster pump capacity. All existing asbestos concrete pipes will be replaced with polyvinyl chloride pipe which will also address a high water loss.  These proposed improvements will provide compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act and provide for the safety and welfare of all customers served.  San Augustine Rural WSC serves 1,800 rural residents.
